Congratulations to Sister Belen for receiving a Griffith Australia Day Award for extraordinary & outstanding volunteer work within the community. “Sr Belen Agulia is an active member of our local community and 2022 marks 48 years of service at Canossa Kindergarten. Since 1973, Sr Belen has given tirelessly in her various roles as a Teacher, Director and Head of Pastoral Care at Canossa Kindergarten Coorparoo. At last count there were over 6000 local children who have been fortunate enough to benefit from the compassion, kindness and care that Sr Belen provides on a daily basis in our local community. Her passion for helping children and their families throughout their formative years has significantly contributed to the fabric of our local Griffith Electorate.”

Today, 2nd February 2022, we celebrate World Day of Consecrated Life. We thank God for the great gift of vocation entrusted to us. And we join in praying with gratitude for all consecrated women and men; for their daily “yes” spoken and unspoken, prophetically voiced and authentically lived. May the Greatest Love of Jesus continue to be our source of inspiration for the journey ahead.

This week was monumental for the Canossian Sisters in Australia as we opened a new community at Wurrumiyanga, part of the Tiwi Islands. Sisters Val, Amelia and Monique will form this community, located 80km off the coast of Darwin. It was a big few days as we set up our community, attended our first mass at the local Church celebrated by Bishop Charles Gauci, participated in the blessing of the new Catholic Care NT NDIS hub and visited the nursing home and local cafe! We look forward to walking with and learning from the Tiwi people, as we seek to make Jesus known and loved to our brothers and sisters of Wurrumiyanga.
